Country Drives
Willow City Loop- Out of Fredericksburg go North on HWY 965 out of the Pedernales River Valley to the edge of the Llano uplift.  Continue on 965 for 18 miles.  Enchanted Rock State Park Natural Area rises up on your left.  Continue on 965 toward Llano.  Turn right on 16 heading south.  At Willow City Loop Road, turn left.  This twisting road is a beautiful stretch of rugged Hill Country.  Cedar Mountain, elevation 1856, is on your right, home to bald eagles.  On your left, Bee Rock and Solomon Mountain.  Continue driving through Willow City, an old country store still there in operation, since 1870.  At HWY 1323 turn right and continue until the road reconnects with HWY 16.  Turn left and return to Fredericksburg.


Wildflower Scenic Drive
Take IH-10 West out of Kerrville to HWY 783 (the Harper exit) turn right.  Continue north to Doss.  At HWY 87 turn left toward Mason.  Continue to HWY 29, turn right to Llano.  From Llano take HWY 16 back to Fredericksburg
 

Welfare to Waring-Boerne to Fredericksburg
From Boerne: Head west on I-10 toward Comfort.  Take exit 533 (Waring/Welfare Road) the road forks just past the Nelson City Dance Hall-take the right fork.  The countryside is beautiful and crosses the Guadalupe River and Joshua Creek.  Look for the Welfare Café –wonderful little restarant in the Old Welfare General Store and Post Office—reservations recommended. Continue through Waring to the right.  When the road intersects with HWY 473, take a right.  At 1376 in Sisterdale, turn left and continue toward HWY 290.  This winding road takes you past horse farms and old homesteads.  Continue on 1376 toward the Pedernales River Valley, where you will see wildflower fields, wineries and pastures.  On the left is the historic town of Luckenbach.  Stop in for a cold beer and see who might be singing on the patio.  From Luckenbach continue on 1376 to HWY 290.  To your left, you will find peach orchard, apple orchards, the Wildseed Farms and the town of Fredericksburg.
 

Welfare to Waring-Kerrville back to Kerrville
From Kerrville, heading south towards San Antonio, take I-10 to exit 533; follow the access road under I-10 and veer right onto the Welfare-Waring Road.  The road forks just past the Nelson City Dance Hall—take the right fork.  The countryside is beautiful and crosses the Guadalupe River and Joshua Creek.  Look for the Welfare Café-wonderful little restaurant in the Old Welfare General Store and Post Office—reservations recommended.  Continue through Waring to the right.  When the road intersects with HWY 473, take a left to Comfort (at the Junction of I-10 and HWYS 87 and 27)  Comfort has a quaint 19th century downtown district loaded with beautiful historic buildings, antique shops, inns and gift boutiques.  Return to Kerrville on I-10
 

Southfork Scenic Guadalupe River Drive-Kerrville to Kerrville
Head west on HWY 27 to Hunt.  In Hunt take HWY 39.  Continue along the river to 187, turn left and proceed to Vanderpool.  Lost Maples State Park will be on your right.  Just past Vanderpool turn left on 337, continue back to HWY 16, just north of Medina.  Turn left and head back to Kerrville.

 

Burnet to Llano

State Hwy 29 and State Hwy 71 east from Llano to US 281 with wonderful views of the Highland Lakes

 

Ranch Road 32 from Ranch Road 12 in Wimberley
Takes you along the “Devils Backbone” to 281 in Blanco. 

 

State Hwy 173 South from Kerrville through Camp Verde
The scenic route to Bandera.


Eagles Nest Scenic Drive-out of Kerrville
Take HWY 16 toward Medina over Eagle’s Nest for breathtaking views; especially pretty in the fall with red oak and sumac fall foliage.
